Listen to a curated selection of music and fun facts related to the
featured LP. Then enjoy the entire album played on an amazing sound
system brought in just for the show.
We start 2020 at the end (for Simon and Garfunkel that is). The power folk-rock duo of the 60’s final album just crosses the barrier over to the 70’s. After only 5 albums, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel decide to part ways, each pursuing their solo endeavors. What they leave us with is this, a musical masterwork encompassing folk, Rock, R&B, Jazz, gospel, world music, pop, and other styles. It has been described as both effortless and ambitious. “Bridge” was released on January 26, 1970 to immediate critical and commercial success.
The album includes two of their most successful songs, “Bridge over Troubled Water” and “The Boxer”, both of which were listed on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Critically and commercially successful, the album topped the charts in over ten countries and received two Grammy Awards, plus four more for the title song.
It sold around 25 million records and is ranked on several lists, including number 51 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, The Times ranked the album at number 20 on its “100 Best Albums of all Time”, and it was also included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
